After starting the season 0-3, the Jacksonville Lady Red Devils have bounced back with a pair of solid wins.
Jacksonville traveled to Mount St. Mary last week and dominated on the way to an easy 63-39 win over the Belles. Saturday, they filled in at the Cabot Pre-Holiday tournament and came away with a 71-43 win over Watson Chapel.
The Lady Devils were actually playing the Belles on Tuesday when the Cabot tournament began. Northeast Arkansas was still affected by icy conditions, and Green County Tech had to pull out of the tournament. Jacksonville filled in that spot in the loser’s bracket and got a win out of the deal.
At Mount St. Mary, Jacksonville played a tough man defense that forced turnovers and let the Lady Devils run out to a 47-22 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Tiffany Smith, Antrice McCoy and Keke Alcorn each scored 13 points for the Lady Devils. Markela Bryles was playing her first game after coming back to the team from cheerleading and scored 12 points.
Jacksonville didn’t have quite as easy a time against Watson Chapel, but eventually pulled away from the Lady Wildcats.
Watson Chapel led by one early in the second quarter, but three-pointers by Alcorn and Ashli Evans helped spark a 15-0 run by the Lady Devils. Jacksonville led 36-19 at halftime.
Bryles led the Lady Devils in scoring this time, pouring in 16 points. Smith was right behind with 15 points, while McCoy and Alcorn scored 13 and 11 respectively.
