JACKSONVILLE FOOTBALL Red Devils have eye towards playoffs

The Jacksonville Red Devils have a unique opportunity in front of them this Friday.

Win at home versus Pulaski Academy, and they win it all.

That would be a nice remedy to some fractured hearts after losing to Little Rock Mills on a late touchdown.

Mills scored after the Devils failed to convert a fourth down in their won territory with a 7-6 lead.

What is not in doubt is that the Devils have a postseason spot. Up until last Friday, the only question was whether Jacksonville will garner a one or a two seed. Friday’s loss complicates matters just a bit.

The Devils can either win the league or finish third. A Jacksonville loss will put the Comets in second place. A win will obviously put PA into the second slot.

The pecking order from there is even more muddied.

Little Rock Christian can erase any confusion with a win. Losing, however, gives other schools hope including Sylvan Hills, that coincidentally has to beat North Pulaski in their finale.

Jacksonville’s predicament is remarkable in two aspects.

A team that has new players at new positions going into the season and running a new offense isn’t supposed to compete for a conference title.

And going into Friday’s game against Mills, conventional wisdom would have given the Devils the edge.

The Red Devils have no doubt that after this week’s game, they are going somewhere. They just don’t know exactly where.
