Gwatney A falls to Searcy

The Jacksonville Gwatney Junior Legion team suffered a tough loss when they watched a 7-3 lead turn into an 8-7 loss in Searcy’s final full at-bat.

Jacksonville scored four runs in the top of the first inning without a single hit. A.J. Jackson reached on an error, Brandon Hickingbotham and Colton Goodman were walked and Caleb McMunn was hit by a pitch for an RBI. Hickingbotham and Goodman scored when Tyson Flowers’ fly ball to left turned into an error, followed by McMunn scoring on a wild pitch.

After Searcy scored single runs in the first and second innings, Jacksonville got its first hit in the third on a single by Goodman.

Jacksonville went on to score three runs in that inning, with Goodman, Wakefield and McMunn each making it all the way around the bases. McMunn had reached on a walk, while Wakefield reached when he singled in Goodman.

Searcy came roaring back in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs on three hits, two errors, a walk and a hit batter.

Jacksonville had a runner in scoring position at second with one out in the fourth inning, but a fly ball to left was misjudged by the runner at second. The ball was caught and fired to second to complete the double play.

The game was called during Searcy’s time at the plate in the bottom of the fourth when the time limit expired.
