The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recently awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Jacksonville for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended Dec. 31, 2011.
The Certificate of Achievement is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report whose contents conform to program standards.
The CAFR must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicablelegal requirements.
A Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year only.
“This was the fifteenth consecutive year that the City of Jacksonville has achieved this prestigious award,” said Mayor Gary Fletcher and City Finance Director Cheryl Erkel in a joint statement. “We believe that our current comprehensive annual financial report continues to conform to the Certificate of Achievement Program’s requirements, and we are submitting it to the GFOA to determine its eligibility for another certificate.”
Erkel said the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report is a team effort by the entire City of Jacksonville Finance Department.
