Sheriff’s Office warns of scam

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a telephone scam in which the caller says there is an outstanding fine that needs to be paid.

The Sheriff’s Office has received several phone calls from people saying they have received a call from a “Lt. Allen” who claims to be from the Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release from PCSO spokesman Lt. Carl Minden. “Lt. Allen” informs the person they have a fine that needs to be paid over the phone by debit or credit.

Minden said the scheme is a scam and that the Sheriff’s Office does not collect fines, which instead are collected by the courts. The Sheriff’s Office does not take credit or debit cards for any of the services it provides.
