Nixon Public Library sets August calendar of events

Thursday– Adult Movie Night: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone at 5 p.m. (PG-13)

Friday – Give a Stitch at 4 p.m. (This month is knitting and crochet lessons. Learn to make basic items, or come and ask questions. Preregistration is available, but walk-ins are welcome until class is full. For ages 13 years and up.)

Tuesday– Family Movie Night: Oz: The Great and Powerful (PG) at 5 p.m.

Aug. 8 - Learn to Knit at noon. (Ages 13 and up. Registration required. Bring size 10 knitting needles. Free yarn provided.)

Aug. 8 - True Stories Book Club at 2 p.m Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson will be discussed. Next month’s title is Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles J. Shields will be discussed in September.

Aug. 8 - Adult Game Night: Dominoes at 6 p.m. (For people who want to learn how to play and for those who want to sharpen his or her skills. No registration required. Ages 18 and up.)

Aug. 9 – Give a Stitch at 4 p.m. (This month is knitting and crochet lessons. Learn to make basic items, or come and ask questions. Preregistration is available, but walk-ins are welcome until class is full. For ages 13 years and up.)

Aug. 13 - Family Movie Night: Warm Bodies (PG-13) at 5:30 p.m.

Aug. 14 – Sign Language 101 at 6:30 p.m. (This is a 10 week program. You must be pre-registered to attend this class.)

Aug. 15 – Adult Movie Night: 42 at 5 p.m. (PG-13)

Aug. 16 - Give a Stitch at 4 p.m. (This month is knitting and crochet lessons. Learn to make basic items, or come and ask questions. Preregistration is available, but walk-ins are welcome until class is full. For ages 13 years and up.)

Aug. 17 - Learn to Crochet at 1:30 p.m. (Ages 13+. Registration required. Bring a crochet hook size H. Free yarn provided.)

Aug. 19 – Teen Time at 4 p.m. (A place for teens to come hang out, play games, use our laptops, have snacks, and work on projects for school or just for fun. For ages 13-19 years.)

Aug. 20 – Tween Time 4 p.m. (Games, crafts, and snacks. 9 – 12 years.)

Aug. 21 - Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. (Stories, fingerplays, songs, and crafts. 3-5 years.)

Aug. 21 – Sign Language 101 at 6:30 p.m. (This is a 10 week program. You must be pre-registered to attend this class.)

Aug. 21 – Back to School Board Game Bash (4-5:30 p.m. in Library Meeting Room, then from 6-8 p.m. the group will move to Game Zone Alpha for more games and fun.)

Aug. 22 - Classics for Teens at 2 p.m. (We will be discussing Don Quixote by Miguel Cervantes Saaverdra and picking up Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain for our discussion in September. Drinks and snacks provided.)

Aug. 22 - Adult Game Night: Poker 6 p.m. (For people who want to learn how to play and for those who want to sharpen his or her skills. No registration required. Ages 18 and up.)

Aug. 23 – Toddler Time at 10:30 a.m. (Music, movement, stories, and play time. 12 – 36 months.)

Aug. 28 - Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. (Stories, fingerplays, songs, and crafts. 3-5 years.)

Aug. 28 – After-school Storytime at 4 p.m. (Stories, crafts, and snacks. 4 – 8 years.)
