Nixon Library in Jacksonville plans June events

Friday

Give a Stitch ay 4 p.m. Basic and advanced lesson in knitting and crochet. Celebrate national yarn bombing month at the library. Pre-registration is available but walk-ins welcome until class is full. Ages 13 years and up.

Saturday

World Wide Knit in Public Day & International Yarn Bombing Day at noon. Come knit or crochet while the library celebrates WWKIP Day & IYB Day. Examples of yarn bombing will be on display in our lobby. Snacks and beverages provided.

Monday

Real Entertaining at 10 a.m. Kids entertaining kids and adults with musical fun. Ages 6-8

Scott Davis at 2 p.m. Magic with Scott Davis. Ages 9- 12

Tuesday

Kick Start Your Health at 4 p.m. Yowell Arts will be presenting a basic martial arts class. This class is open to beginners and interested parties. Ages 10 and up.

Wednesday

Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m. Shake Rattle & Roll with a guest programmer/storyteller. Ages 3 -5.

Family Game Night at 4 p.m. At 5:30 p.m. the library will move the fun across the street to Game Stop Alpha.

Thursday

Learn to Knit at noon. Ages 13 and up. Registration required. Bring size 10 knitting needles. Free yarn provided.

True Stories Book Club at 2 p.m. The library will be discussing Unbroken: A World War II story of survival, resilience, and redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. Next month’s title, I feel bad about my neck: and other thoughts on being a woman by Nora Ephron will be discussed in July.

Adult Game Night: Dominoes at 6 p.m. For people who want to learn how to play and for those who want to sharpen his or her skills. No registration required. Ages 18 and up.

June 14

Babies and Toddlers at 10 a.m.Music fun. Ages 12 – 36 months.

Introduction to Overdrive at noon. The library will be having a free class on “OverDrive.” Feel free to bring your devices with you. Questions welcome.

Kinders Concert at 2:30 p.m. Music fun for all ages.

Taking it to the Beach at 10 a.m. Join us at the “Beach” for some fun. Craft is Sandcastle. Ages 6-8.

June 18

Stake Your Claim at 4 p.m. Decorate the teen area with cut outs and artwork. All decorations will follow an underwater theme. Teens only please.

June 19

Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m. Very Ready Reader with a guest programmer/storyteller. Ages 3 -5.

June 20

Adult Movie Night: Safe Haven at 5 p.m. (PG-13)

June 21

Babies & Toddlers at 10 a.m. Fun with bubbles. Ages 12 – 36 months.

Dinosaurs at 10 a.m. Discover the world of Dinosaurs. Craft: Dinosaur feet. Ages 6 - 8.

Museum of Discovery at 2 p.m. – Museum of Discovery. Ages 9 - 12.

June 25

Inner Peace at 4 p.m. Yoga instructor Sarah Sullivan will be giving an introductory lesson for yoga. Ages 10 and up.

Nixon Book Worms at 6:30 p.m. The library will be discussing Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Next month’s title Mistress of spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni will be discussed in July.

June 26

Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m. Dig up the past. Craft: Loo roll Mummies. Ages 3 – 5.

June 27

Classics for Teens at 2 p.m. The library will be discussing Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and picking up Hatchet by Gary Paulsen for our discussion in July. Drinks and snacks provided.

Adult Game Night: Poker at 6 p.m. For people who want to learn how to play and for those who want to sharpen his or her skills. No registration required. Ages 18 and up.

June 28

Babies and Toddlers at 10 a.m. Dino Storytime. Ages 12 - 36 months.

American Girl Book Club at 1 p.m. This month’s book is Kaya Shows the Way: A Sister Story.
