Chamber plans several meetings
The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce announces the following upcoming meetings:
Today: Plant Manager’s luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the chamber meeting room;
Tuesday: Executive Board meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the chamber boardroom; Candidate forum at the Jacksonville Senior & Wellness Center from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Wednesday: A lunch & lean small business meeting at 11:30 a.m. in the chamber meeting room;
Oct. 18: Board of Directors will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the chamber boardroom;
Oct. 19: Ribbon Cutting/grand re-opening at 10 a.m. at the new McDonald’s on Main Street;
Oct. 24: There will be a beans and cornbread lunch at the Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center, 100 Victory Lane, Jacksonville from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased in advance.
Oct. 25: A business after hours has been set at Cooper Family Dentistry, 308 N. James St., from 5-7 p.m.
Land of 1,000 Screams slated through October
A Haunted House known as “Land of 1,000 Screams” has been planned in Jacksonville from Oct. 19-21, Oct. 26-28, and Oct. 29-31 from 7 p.m. to midnight at 1930 W. Main St. just west of Country Kitchen. The Haunted House is located on the right side of Main. It is a Haunted House fundraiser sponsored by Jacksonville Gymnastics, Dance and Cheer Parents Association.

Senior dancing event slated for Friday
The fourth annual CareLink Dancing with the Seniors Contest will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center, 100 Victory Circle.
Reed’s Bridge Preservation Society to host Civil War Days Saturday
The Reed’s Bridge Battlefield Preservation Society will host Civil War Days on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is free.
The public can experience a working encampment and activities for the whole family. There will be three different music groups, a Dutch oven cook off, a whole pig roast by BBQ Shack, pony rides, petting zoo, fishing, games and more.
Reed’s Bridge Battlefield is located at Hwy. 161 in Jacksonville.

Tai Chi session slated for Saturday
The Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department and Joanne Zeitler, senior trailer Tai Chi for Health Institute have planned for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. a Tai Chi session at the Jacksonville Community Center. The session will take place by the fountain area behind the Farmers Market, No. 9 Municipal Drive, Jacksonville.
Tai Chi is an ancient martial art and wellness exercise program designed to gently work muscles, organs, and system of the body to promote better health.
The session will play traditional Tai Chi forms and Tai Chi for health forms, including the Arthritis Foundation’s Tai Chi for Arthritis Program.
This event is free to everyone.

Jacksonville Senior Center plans beans and cornbread lunch for Oct. 24
The Jacksonville Senior Wellness and Activity Center has set a beans and cornbread lunch for Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center located at 100 Victory Circle. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased in advance. Food, fun and entertainment are planned.
Fitness Association to hold certification workshop on Dec. 8 in Jacksonville
The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) will be holding primary group exercise certification workshops at the Jacksonville Community Center on Dec. 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The certification workshop will include lectures, practical demonstration and written and practical exams. The workshop also will include a one-year membership to the AFAA organization, which is a $68 value.
