Free symposium on Civil War slated for Saturday

The public can explore the Civil War from an Arkansas perspective and hear presentations from the state’s top experts on history can attend a free symposium slated for Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jacksonville Museum of Military History. The event is sponsored by the Jacksonville Advertising and Promotions Commission.

Discussions on the agenda include:

• The Battle of Prairie Grove, Alan Thompson, Museum Registrar at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park;

• The Little Rock Campaign, Mark Christ, Outreach Director for Arkansas Historic Preservation Program;

• Freemasonry during the Civil War; Tom Ezel, Civil War Round Table of Arkansas, Historian and Re-enactor;

• Civil War Archeology in Arkansas, Dr. Jamie Brandon, SAU Research Station.
