Area football teams will hit practice fields on Monday to prep for upcoming seasons

The Jacksonville Red Devils and North Pulaski Falcons will begin official workouts on Monday.

“We plan on starting with everyone Monday morning,” Red Devil coach Mark Whatley said. “We will have two workouts a day until school begins.’’

The same goes for North Pulaski coach Tony Bohannon and his Falcons.

Whatley said the Red Devils are expecting around 65 players for the start of practice.

“We had that many sign up and we have had good turnouts this year at our Tuesday night and Thursday night workouts,’’ said Whatley, who is beginning his fourth season with the Red Devils. “The kids have done a good job of coming up to work out this year.

Whatley said the schedule is for a morning workout running from 8 a.m. until around 11:30. and an evening workout that will begin around 4.

“In the evening we will do a lot more individual work, working in the weight room, and seven on seven drills,’’ Whatley said.

The Red Devils return six starters from a team that finished 3-7.

The Falcons are expecting around 50 players for workouts.

“We will bring them in on Thursday and Friday, but that will be conditioning and trying to get all of our paperwork taken care of.’’

Bohannon also said the team has a parents’ meeting set for Thursday night at 6 at the school.

“We will get everything going on Monday with our regular workouts,’’ he said.

“We are encouraged about the numbers and the kids we have coming back.’’

Jacksonville will open its season on Sept. 2 with the highly regarded Cabot Panthers while North Pulaski will travel to Searcy to play the Class 6A Panthers.
